Bridging programs

involve skilled immigrants completing in-class training and work placements to bridge their prior education and work experience so they meet the requirements to practice within their professions in Canada.

Algonquin Connecting Expertise of the Internationally Trained

provides bridging training to internationally educated health professionals to prepare them for employment in the health care system.

Bredin Institute Training Programs

bridge the gap for internationally trained professionals in meeting the necessary Canadian standards and acquiring the obligatory licensure to practice in Alberta.

The Edmonton office offers bridging programs in physiotherapy, pharmacology and paramedics. The Calgary office has a bridging program in veterinary medicine.

Bridge to Canadian Nursing Program

is offered to internationally educated nurses (IENs) through Mount Royal College.

Bridging Business Careers Program

is designed for internationally trained professionals in the fields of Business, Finance and senior-level Administration. The program works with both participants and employers so participants are assisted in securing employment and employers are assisted in finding qualified staff.

Cégep du Vieux Montréal

offers bridging programs for internationally trained nurses and engineers.

Cambrian Credit Union

works with the Government of Manitoba and other local credit unions to provide newcomers with customer service training.

Career Mentorship

matches skilled immigrants with volunteer mentors in Winnipeg who have experience in the same field, to provide support in the process of accreditation, licensing and re-entry into chosen careers.

Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers

offers bridging programs for internationally educated accountants and engineers.

Hardcore HR

is a series of five, one-day, human resources (HR)workshops for non HR professionals. They can bring internationally trained professionals, who are stepping into Canadian management roles, up to speed. Workshops are delivered by the University of Toronto.

Jewish Employment Montreal (JEM)

matches newcomers with local professionals who are in a position to help them navigate the Canadian accreditational system and job market, while providing networking opportunities.

L'Hirondelle

provides internship opportunities for newcomers to Canada, with a subsidy for employers.

Multicultural Helping House Society

helps skilled immigrants in Vancouver and Richmond: find employment in their chosen field; gain a better understanding of the Canadian labour market; and develop job search and networking techniques. Mentoring is available in the following fields: accounting, banking, IT, engineering, nursing, pharmacy, social work and teaching.

Practical Nurse Diploma for Internationally Educated Nurses

is offered through NorQuest College. Graduates will receive a PN diploma and be able to start work immediately as practical nurses.

Ryerson's Bridging Programs

Profession-specific bridging programs are offered in accounting and finance, dietetics and nutrition, midwifery, nursing and social work.

S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Job Mentoring Program

enables participants to shadow qualified and experienced BC professionals to learn about labour market information, career development opportunities, workplace culture, etc.

The Mentoring Partnership

pairs mentors who are experienced in their industry with a skilled immigrant mentee with the same professional background, so they can teach them about their industry in Canada, job search skills and networking. Mentors increase cross-cultural knowledge and develop leadership skills by mentoring a skilled immigrant in their field.

The Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration

web site provides a list of bridging programs for professions such as accounting, construction, engineering, etc.

The University of Manitoba Internationally-Educated Engineers Qualification Pilot Program (IEEQ)

places internationally trained engineers with employers to obtain the work experience component of the licensing requirements for professional engineering.

Work Experience for Immigrants Program

is a 16 week program provided by Bow Valley College in Calgary. It consists of a 10 week employment related ESL in class training followed by a 6 week unpaid job placement where skilled immigrants gain Canadian work experience in their fields of expertise.
